A silver color metal and enamel insignia 1 inch (2.54cm) in height overall consisting of a cross botonn from the Maryland state flag saltirewise surmounted by a maroon enamel Greek cross bearing the Staff of Aesculapius in silver.
Maroon and white are the colors used for the Army Medical Department. The Greek cross, symbol of aid and comfort, reflects the personnel and mission of the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity and the botonn cross refers to Maryland, the organization's location. The Staff of Aesculapius, symbol of the God of Healing, represents the spirit of the Activity.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the Kimbrough Army Hospital on 14 Nov 1969. It was redesignated for the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity, Fort George G. Meade on 13 Sep 1973.
